Komm, Jesu, komm BWV.229

Ex Cathedra are known for seeking out the best, the unfamiliar and the unexpected in the choral repertoire and for giving dynamic performances underpinned by detailed research. Founded in 1969 by Jeffrey Skidmore, the group has grown into a unique musical resource, comprising specialist chamber choir, vocal Consort, period-instrument orchestra.

The Baroque Passion programme contains sublime music by Bach, Kuhnau, Lotti, Monteverdi, Purcell and Scarlatti. This is sinuous, poignant music that yearns for resolution – heartrending as Mary weeps at the foot of the cross in Scarlatti’s Stabat Mater and concludes with the optimism of Bach’s miniature masterpiece Komm, Jesu, komm.
