My other priority, along with the late quartets, for the Beethoven anniversary was to programme the last three piano sonatas. To play these truly remarkable and transcendental works who finer than Richard Goode, one of the world’s greatest Beethoven interpreters and, to many, a candidate for “the Pianists’ pianist”. I am delighted that audiences will also be able to experience Richard’s teaching on the Tuesday morning of the 19th and it will be inspirational for the young players of the Academy orchestra to work with him in a Mozart concerto on the 21st.
“No less oracular was Richard Goode’s performance of Beethoven’s late piano music at an equally packed Wigmore Hall.…his account of the final sonata trilogy purveyed both exhilarating earthiness and visions of the sublime.” The Independent
