Hosting musicians

For logistical reasons the move to September means that the Festival Academy Orchestra will be with us for all of week one rather than week two. As always, they can only be in residence because of the generosity of the wonderful hosts who welcome the musicians into their homes each year. If there are any people, particularly within Chipping Campden, who feel able to offer accommodation from Sunday 5th-Saturday 11th do please contact Ailsa Scott –

Student tickets

We do everything we can to encourage young people to attend the concerts and student ticket discounts apply to all full time students aged 25 or under. If you are beyond that age but feel you have a strong case for applying, (e.g. retraining as a music teacher) please contact Prices remain as previous years – a nominal £1 for all concerts. We believe there is nowhere else in the UK where students can hear such superb musicians for so small a sum.

Supporting young talent

As a charity, the festival is seriously committed to music education.

The ‘Chipping Campden Festival Academy’ orchestra, formed in 2008, has become an extremely significant part of the festival. The Academy is formed anew every year (although many of the professionals are regular members) and each desk has an advanced conservatoire student or recent graduate playing alongside an experienced Pro. This gives the young artists an invaluable insight into what playing in a  professional orchestra entails. For details about applying as an advanced conservatoire student or recent graduate please email Thomas Hull –
or Charlie Bennett –

In 2015 we formed the Festival Youth Academy Orchestra course. This orchestra is based on the same formula as the May festival orchestra but for this course, the May Academy members return to become mentors to secondary aged students. If you know of secondary aged musicians who may be interested, please email –
The standard required is approximately ABRSM grade 8 or equivalent. NB Because of ongoing uncertainties, we are not able to commit to running this course in August 2021 but sincerely hope that we will be able to do so again in 2022.

If you are involved in local primary or secondary education and would like to discuss workshops we may be able to offer please contact our Head of Education Jessica May –

Our community choir, known as the Festival Chorus, has been unable to meet for over a year now but they have taken part in two very successful online training course and we hope that they will be able to resume live concerts in the autumn of this year. If you are interested in joining please email the Music Director, Charles Matthews – There are no auditions for the choir, all are welcome.
