Die Schone Mullerin D. 795

Tonight sees the festival debuts of Roderick Williams and Iain Burnside They will perform Schubert’s great cycle in what should be a memorable evening. Roderick has performed major roles with all the UK Opera Houses and sings concert repertoire with all the leading UK orchestras as well as having a busy recital schedule. In May 2016 he won the Royal Philharmonic Society Singer award. Iain is a hugely accomplished and much lauded pianist who has performed with many of the world’s finest singers, and in the course of 2017 he and Roddy are performing all three of the great Schubert cycles.

What characterises Roderick Williams as one of today’s nulli secundus interpreters of Schubert Lieder? Simply put, he can sing, and, oh, how he sings on this disc!
Joseph Newsome Voix des Arts

the star of the show is undoubtedly Burnside, playing throughout with unfailing intensity and sensitivity: voice and piano are truly equal partners here, and the results are electrifying.
